188 Iverson Road is home to the building and joinery firm of C. Tavener & Son Ltd.

Founded as a builders/undertakers in 1846, C. Tavener & Son’s association with north London is as old as the firm itself. The firm has been continuously owned and operated by the family through six generations, with premises in Finchley Road from 1920 to 1971, and the workshop in Iverson Road since 1935, where the business consolidated in the 1950s, and remains to this day.

Today, the site houses the offices of Tavener’s construction arm and the offices and workshops of both its joinery division – a loyal and highly-skilled team of joiners, draughtsmen, and managers – and its decorating division.

Whilst Tavener’s of course undertake projects throughout London, England, and internationally, they nonetheless maintain a strong association with West Hampstead and its environs – most recently completing projects in Hampstead, Fitzrovia, and Maida Vale, as well as carrying out ongoing maintenance at many historic properties across the borough.

Recently celebrating its 170th birthday, and rebranding itself as Tavener, the firm retains great pride in its legacy; in its remaining a family-run business with long-established ties to the local community; and of course in the quality of work produced.

This proposal, for the creation of 19 apartments above lower ground and ground floor office accommodation, is being coordinated by the firm’s present directors – Simon Tavener, and his brother Mark Tavener. A chartered architect, Mark is also director of Attol Architecture and Interiors, who have designed the present scheme in conjunction with Taveners and an external planning consultancy.
